Some New Policies

Some new policies have come up which I would like all aspirants to know. These have come up very recently and will be with effect from 2013.

1) STUDY LEAVE FOR SSC OFFICERS :- The option of Study leave for SSC Officers have been removed with effect from 2013. Only Permanent Commission Officers are entitled for study leave. This is a major set back for those who would like to continue as SSC and then do PG outside AFMS.

2) CONTINUATION OF SSC :- Previously, the policy for continuing in service after 05 years of initial tenure was that "The officer has to APPLY FOR RELEASE well in advance to be terminated from active service. In case no application reaches HQ, the officer is automatically continued in active service".

The present policy requires officers to APPLY FOR CONTINUATION which will be scrutinized for eligibility and those who are found fit will be given continuation. This is another MAJOR set back for those who were expecting continuation and further do PG after 07-10 years of service.

WHY THESE POLICIES ?

Armed Forces Medical Services has supposedly been directed to work with a compliment which has 60% SSC and 40 % PC officers so that they get enough young officers to serve in field areas and save a lot on pensions. In the process the AFMS is presently becoming UNFRIENDLY TO SSC.

  1. hello sir,
i'm a graduate from MAMC(new delhi). I was really impressed with your blog and would be grateful to get answers for the following queries.
1- I would like to know about the chances of getting selected for PC after 2years of SSC.
2- Do we need to give aipg exam after 4yrs PC for MD/MS seat. Is there any difference in quota for SSC and PC candidates
3- If we get selected then will the 5th yr will start as a PG or we have to complete 5yr period first?
4- post PG how many years are compulsory to serve to sit for super specialization in AFMS as well as other institutions.

    thanking you,

    regards,
    Pulkit

  2. Hi Pulkit,

    1) The present chances are very less. Cannot comment. There is a court case filed against army by SSC officers against the malafide intentions of Army in granting PC. SO No comments.

    2) You can give DNB in case of SSC and if you get PC then you can give AIPG. You CANNOT write AIPG on your 4th year if you don't get PC.

    3) 5th year will be your post graduation.

    4) Post Pg, you have to work for 04 years to be eligible to appear for superspecialization.

      one more question plz....

      SSC + DNB
      PC + MD/MS
both 7yrs .....post that would everything be same for both till completion of 14yrs? eg pension plan or the rank

      Regards

    2. Hi pulkit,

SSC + DNB total 14 years. PC - total 20 years compulsory. Other rank, perks everything same. PC gets pension whereas SSC doesn't.

    sir , I have 2 questions :

    1. I have cleared my final phase MBBS in first attempt , but During 1st , 2nd n 3rd phase I cleared few subjects during my second attempt... will that matter ?

    2. Sir, will there b a call for SSC officers this year?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Hi Nitish,

      1) The maximum number of attempts that you can have is 02 (TWO). This is determined by the ATTEMPT CERTIFICATE that you get from the university of education. If that says 02 or less, then you are eligible, otherwise Not.

Usually FIRST YEAR and FINAL YEAR MBBS exams are counted for attempts. Plz Contact your university for their rules.

      2) No idea. Just keep a watch on official website as well as leading newspapers.

    1. Hi Dr Rajiv,

I would advice NOT to as you will not get PC. So you will have to retire after 05/14 years without pension. Those who have not done PG have a plus point that they will get PG seat post retirememnt from SSC. You don't have that reason too.. There is no reservation for Super specialisation if any..

  11. hello sir,
i have applied for ssc 2014.my interview is on 3rd sep
my height is 171 and weight 52,chest expansion 4cm.will i be considered fit?
also everybody would be answering those questions on emergency med and most common conds.so the selection is based purely on confidence?
which is the best subject to choose if they ask according to you?(obg or psm or med)
around 2000 candidates for 3oo posts.how many of them will be selected for 300 posts?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi,

Am sorry for late reply. This one just missed by a month or so. Still I would answer as it may be helpful to you or somebody else.

      1) Chest expansion should be a minimum of 5 cm. It depends on the recruiting Medical Officer and your general appearance. If your chest is too narrow than your hips, then Unless you are a lady, (NB: i don't know your gender) it may be taken as an abnormality. Weight is okay.

      2) Everybody will not be answering emergency medical questions. I was asked "How to mobilise the spleen during emergency splenectomy?"!! I am not a surgeon and of courswe have not performed an emergency splenectomy. SO I didn't answer that.

      3) Confidence DOES matter a lot. But not purely. Your college, your family background (anybody in forces is a plus), your body language, your appearance (dress like a hippie and you are out), your speech (Stuttering matters), common sense (which will be tested one way or the other)... and so many things.

      3) They won't ask you. If they ask, chose wisely. According to your knowledge in subject. Every subject is tough, if asked by a knowledgeable specialist.

      4) The first shortlist will be 300, reserve 300. So a total of 600.

      Regards

    1. Hi,

      1) You stand as good chance as anybody else with added advantage of a PG.

      2) SSC is the ONLY way of entry post MBBS other than, do a PG in Army Hospital and then do 5 year bond( that too SSC). PC entry (direct) is only for AFMC pass outs.

  16. Hello Sir,
Very nice effort on your side in answering queries of so many people on your blog...KUDOS!
I have a few queries of my own:

    1. If an SSC officer does not get PC he can appear for DNB examination after 4 years of service. But can he appear for MD/MS examination after 7 years of service according to the new policies?

    2. Regarding the study leave you mentioned that the study leave will not be given to ssc officers. Are you talking about the study leave that is given before appearing in the MD/MS examinations, because the whole duration of 3 years of md/ms is also considered during study leave.
Also you have mentioned that this is a major setback for those who want to do their pg outside afms. Does this means that if i want to do my pg in army colleges i will get study leave??

    Awaiting reply...
    Regards

PS- Sir i m currently a serving AMC officer, will complete 2 years in a few months...

    ReplyDelete
  17. Hi,

    1) Yes, SSC officers can apply for MD/MS after 7 years.

    2) MD/MS is NOT study leave. You do it in an Armed Forces institution which is also a "Unit' where you are "posted" for the purpose of study. There is NO study leave "before" exam for ANYBODY. SSC officer will NOT get study leave to do super-specialisation, whereas PC officers are eligible, but you got to earn it.

    3) Previously, when study leave was granted to SSC officers, there were a lot of officer, who did not do PG in service hospitals, but did it from outside institutions using the study leave facility. This facility is withdrawn. Presently, SSC officers are gven MD/MS ONLY in service hospital, where the period of study is ON DUTY rather than on study leave.

    1. Hi,

Super specialty is earned. Once you get selected which depends on your annual reports, then AFMS will ask yo what to do. In case, Cardio and Gastro are not required anymore , they may ask you to take other subjects. Cant really say.

This "Study Leave" is ONLY for PC officers

SSC is of 5 years and you cannot leave before time. There is no cash bond or anything. You are at the mercy of "President's Pleasure". And the President is generally not so pleased to release SSC officers prematurely.

It is mentioned like this in prospectus as it is not possible to do PG in AFMC but can do in other AFMS institutions, is it rite???
Is there ny possible way to do MD/Ms in AFMC while in SSC or as PC??
What is the Min years of service needed to do MD/MS for PC ??
What about the estimated salary hike in cumin Planning commission???

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hi,

For SSC officers, PG seats are earmarked in all teaching hospitals OTHER THAN AFMC.

PC officers are eligible to do PG in AFMC and all other hospitals.
Minimum years required for MD/MS for PC officers are 04 and that for SSC are 07. Both are eligible for DNB after 04 years following which the cjance to do MD will be forfeited.

Planning Commission?! You mean Pay Commission?

Salary hike is expected to be around 2 - 2.8 times depending in Living Index and WPI at the time of Commission, roughly by Jan 2016

You can submit your provisional there. Original can be verified at the UNIT where you join. This facility WAS available even last year. Try talking it out with them. This should not be a problem.

I am Dr. Anand from chennai. I am a civilian. I completed my MD from madras medical college. I have scored well in DNB super specialty entrance and will likely get a cardiology seat in R&R hospital. I have two doubts before I choose it.

    1. I am partially green blind with myopia of 2.5 D. I perform poorly in ishihara charts but identify correctly in holmgren lantern test. During my MD fitness they didn't mind my deficit. Will I be deemed unfit bested on it after I choose army hospital. This is very important because if I get kicked out I will also loose the next best institute in counselling.

I also have 2 EXTRA ceramic teeth for past 7 years to fill in excess gap between my teeth after removing braces. I ve no problems in my teeth otherwise. Will it be considered against me.

    2. My 2nd doubt is where will I be posted after my super speciality as we also have bond of 5 years service. Will I be given cardiology centres or secondary and primary centres like after MBBS graduation.

My counselling is expected in 2 weeks sir. Your advise and help will be greatly appreciated and help choosing a right institute for my future.

    Thanks very much.

I have asked a lot of questions. I would be highly obliged if u could clarify my doubts.

    1. Hi,

MD Pharmac is not a preferred branch, as there are very few vacancies which is filled internally. So, I doubt whether you will be given any preference.

Since you are already a PG, you will get ante-date seniority of 42 months, which means that in 18 months, you will be promoted to the rank of Major.

Since you are given the seniority for your PG, YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED to appear for DNB or ANY other PG.

As of NOW, those who apply for extension of service, are getting it till 14 years. But, as i have said earlier, things are likely to change in the near future. You may be asked to leave after 5 years. If that is a problem for your future, and I can see that it is, please do not join.

Pharmac vacancies are extremely rare. I doubt whether you will get through the interview itself, leave alone getting posted in AFMC !!

      Regards

    1. Hi,

There is ONLY one interview. They will call all applicants whose applications are complete and without error and those who satisfy criteria laid down in the advertisement.

After selection, you will get posted to periphery/ field areas and further transferred to hospital as a surgeon, provided you have a MS/DNB in Surgery.

Sir I want to ask on what basis we are assessed for permanent commission?
What can we do or what efforts we can take to get into Permanent Commision?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Hi,

Permanent Commission is based on an interview and hence the interview performance obviously has an impact. The next important thing is your Annual Confidential Reports written by your senior officers. For that, your performance throughout in all fields including extra curricular activities are evaluated. So, simply perform well...

After 7yrs of service in ssc do we need to go through in any pre exam for being eligible to write all India pg test..?
What is better to do 5yrs of service, Leave services then attempt pg or continue for 7yrs and then try pg...?
