  1. The new june 2014 advertisement lists some ailments as minor that includes varicocele. But i want to get horsemouth information on applicants with varicocele. Do they get through or are they ineligible? Are they permanantly unfit.. if yes why if no why?

    1. Hi,

Varicocele is permanent unfit. The reason os simple. Why should Army take in somebody with a disability when fit and fine candidates are available. In service you will get operated for varicocele, then sick leave and convalescence. There is no time for all these here. So either you get operated and wait for a year to appear before SSC.

    2. Varicocele is a benign, mostly asymptomatic with a prevalance of one in four men throughout the world. It has nothing to do with fitness! It is a condition but should not be listed as permanently unfit in my opinion!

    3. Hi Fahad,

Varicocele is benign, yes and MOSTLY asymptomatic, but in some cases SYMPTOMATIC. All new medical officers are posted in field areas wher ethe ONLY medical personnel available is he himself. If he has a medical condition, then the unit will suffer a loss. Armed Forces will not let this happen. So it is mandated that Fit individuals ONLY are to be recruited.

Secondly, if you ever want to be happy in army, please follow the mandate. YOUR OPINION carries the LEAST value if it conflicts with what is mandated and written UNLESS you are a POLICY MAKER.

      Hope I made it clear.

    1. The above reply is applicable to this too. Gynecomastia affects the morale and confidence of a person. So that too is Unfit.

    1. Hi,

Chances of getting a call letter is 50%. Just as in any competitive exam. Wait for the call letter. In the meanwhile, please do prepare for PG. Just in case.

  6. Hi..I would like to know if Ayurvedic doctors have opportunities to work as army physicians. Even if it does not exist now, are there any possibilities that it might come on the near future? Thank you.

    1. Hi,

There is no provision. It's not going to be in the near future (20-30 years) as Ayurveda is Not recognized as an approved treatment modality. Even reimbursements following Ayurveda is not allowed.

    1. Hi,

SSC is the ONLY entry for you. But there is always a chance that your passion of being an oncosurgeon is sidelined.

    1. Hi,

Any surgery, you have to wait for ONE year. You have to bring the documents of surgery proving the date. Sometimes they ask, especially if your religion doesn't impose it, there must be a reason behind?! Then the date is the only issue.

  9. Hello sir,
I am a lady doctor, aged 24 years, completed MBBS in february 2015. I intend to apply for SSC 2015. I have a few queries :
    1. Is underweight a definite criteria for rejection? (considering height of 157cms and weight of 46kgs)
    2. I have a permanent registration with the state medical council. Do i have to register with the MCI too before i apply?
    3. My fiancee, also a doctor, will be applying with me. In the event that both of us get selected and get married after the posting begins, what will be the protocol that we will have to follow if we want to get posted together?
    4. If my fiancee does not get selected and i do, will we still be able to apply for a married person's accomodation?
    Awaiting your reply.

    1. Hi,

      1) Not strictly. Unless you look emaciated and ill healthy!!

      2) Not necessary. But for ANY doctor, it's better to have a MCI registration. Your INSTITUTION of study should be recognized by MCI for MBBS course. Thats all what's needed.

      3) There is a prescribed format in which you apply for a spouse posting. WIll share the details once you get commissioned. May be at that time, you won't need my help as this will be available at most of the commands. In case of any difficulty, you know how to find me :)

      4) Your "Want" and Army's "Exigencies" may not go hand in hand. SO, it may so be possible that you both are not posted together. That's a risk you have to take. But In general, they try to post you together. It's previlege rather than a right.

      5) Yes of course. If you are married, you will get a married accommodation. "Fiancee" doesn't carry any legal stand, and hence married accommodation will not be provided, but you may apply for one, the day you get married.

  10. Sir,

On what Basis does one get permanent commision and what can we do to increase our chances of getting it?And is it true that being in the submarine cadre you are assured of a permanent commision?
And would you recommend opting for army to increase ones chances?

    1. Hi,

PC is based on interview, Annual Confidential report marks and available vacancies.

Doing well in your workplace would be a start. Doing well in courses would be another.

Submariners USED to get PC. Not anymore.

Army has so many medical officers and proportionately they do get more PC seats. One good thing in Army is that you may get some medals early in your career which might increase your chance to get PC.

But at the same time, Army is the toughest of all three services and chances of losing your life or limb too is high!!!

  11. Sir after waiting so eagerly since 3 years for my mbbs to get over i am now having second thoughts about joining looking at these changes in policies. It seems that it isnt a smooth ride for SSC officers and the sense of job security is defnitely lacking,
I feel that the armed forces must make certain changes in their policies so that both the army as well as the candidate benefit.
I feel id rather prepare for my pg entrances and try for army after my MD as that seems a more secure option
Thank You very much sir for your prompt reply

    1. Hi,

I had expectations in the new Govt, as the BJP manifesto clearly said "SSC will be made more lucrative". But it seems, along with many other promises, this too went down the drain.

The inertia with Armed Forces is too much for any sudden change to be initiated from within. Something from the central govt will be the only hope.

NB : Nothing changes post MD/MS. PC again depends on vacancy in the 'Specific Specialty' !!! That is more tough a bet. AT PRESENT, PG candidates are preferred for PC, as the departments are yet to be saturated. With the lucrative pay commission ahead, the officers leaving service will become lesser and lesser and so do vacancies. So be concurrent while taking a decision.

  16. @ biswajit dad....if u r interested in adventurous activities its better to join the army than air force....as in force the number of medical officers are comparatively lesser than army .so u cant be spared from your primary duty .

  22. Hello sir, I am 2016 grad, lady doctor, got selected in SSC this jan. Expecting my joining soon.
    Please clear my following doubts:
    1. What are the chances of getting a PC for a lady officer?
    2. Is it true that SSC officers get to apply only for DNB after 4 years? If yes, then DNB passing rates are very low, will there be a different passing criteria for defence quota people?
    3. If One leave defence after 5 years of service, will He/she get ex-serviceman quota ONLY for PG or for other civil services also? (Upsc, CMS etc. )
if yes then for how many years?
    4. Will I get the other benefits remain if I leave after 5 years? Ex my rank, CSD, LTC, Medical etc.
    5. What if I turn down the joining letter and do not join at all, will I ever be eligible to apply again?
    6. What If I join and leave within 3 months (probation period) , will I ever be eligible to apply again?

  26. Sir, I am an MBBS graduate and would be grateful if you could clear some doubts that I have.

    1. I have cleared both, 3rd and final year in the first attempt but, physiology, pharmacology and pathology I wrote twice. Am I still eligible for AMC? More specifically, do I have a fighting chance or will I be dropped based on this alone?

    2. Considered the vacancies vary every year, what is the average percentage of short service officers getting PC?
